Honesty note: this recompresses the photo/scan-style images embedded in your PDF at a lower quality, which is where most of a typical PDF's file size comes from. Vector text, fonts, and drawn graphics are left completely untouched — they're not what's being compressed, and they still stay sharp and selectable. Images that already use a very efficient format, or PDFs that are mostly text with few or no images, will shrink much less (there's just less to compress). If the compressed result isn't meaningfully smaller than the original, you'll be told rather than getting a file that's difficult to read.

Frequently asked questions

Will this make my text blurry?

No. Text, fonts, and vector drawings are never touched — only the embedded photo/scan-style images are recompressed. If your PDF has no such images (a pure text document, for example), there's very little for this tool to shrink.

What's the difference between the three levels?

They control how aggressively embedded images are recompressed and, for the higher levels, how much their resolution is reduced. Light keeps quality nearly identical; Maximum gets the smallest file but images will show visible quality loss if you zoom in.

Why didn't my file get much smaller?

If your PDF is mostly text and vector graphics with few images, there simply isn't much image data to compress. This tool doesn't shrink text or fonts, since doing so would change how your document reads.

Is my file ever uploaded?

No, compression runs entirely in your browser. Files are never uploaded anywhere.

Is there a file size limit?

No hard file-count or file-size limit is enforced — very large files are limited only by your device's available memory, since everything is processed locally.
