PDF to Markdown

Turn a PDF into clean Markdown text — headings, paragraphs, and lists rebuilt automatically — right here in your browser.

✓ No file-count or file-size limit ✓ Nothing ever uploaded ✓ 100% free
Honesty note: this reads the actual text in your PDF and rebuilds it as Markdown — headings are guessed from font size, and bullet/numbered list markers already present in the text are converted to Markdown list syntax. It does not reconstruct tables, images, or exact visual layout. If your PDF is a scan or photo of a page with no real text layer, this will come back empty — use Scan to Editable first.

Frequently asked questions

How are headings detected?

Text noticeably larger than the document's typical body text size is treated as a heading — the largest sizes become # or ##, the rest stay as normal paragraphs. It's a best-effort guess based on font size, not a true understanding of your document's structure.

Does it handle bullet points and numbered lists?

Yes, if the original PDF text already starts each line with a bullet character or a number (like "1." or "•"), those are converted to Markdown - or 1. list syntax.

What about tables and images?

Those aren't reconstructed by this tool — it's focused on getting clean, readable text and structure out of a PDF. For tables specifically, try PDF → Excel instead.

Why did my conversion come back empty?

If your PDF is a scan or photo of a page with no real text layer, there's no text to extract. Use Scan to Editable first, which uses text recognition to read scanned pages, then re-run this tool on the result.

Is my file ever uploaded?

No, conversion runs entirely in your browser. Files are never uploaded anywhere.
